Cake

Hello, I only knew Ian a short while through the world of Clandestine Cake Club, but I wanted to tell a little story that I don't think many people knew about. Ian was a keen baker which was appreciated by everyone as far as I can see! However at the last CCC meeting we were badgering him to enter for the Great British Bake Off. He was umming and erring and didn't say either way. Anyway turn the clocks forward a month or two and I had also entered for GBBO. I was lucky enough to get asked through to the first round and went off to get the train to the Manchester audition from Central Station. As I was wandering along the platform I spied a familiar looking figure (with a familiar looking Le Creuset bag!). Turns out Ian did enter and got asked to an audition as well! We spent a great couple of hours nattering on the train about all things baking, feeling like we were bringing the North East contingent to Bake Off. Although I know he didn't get any further than the first round, it does mean that he got through to the last 300 or so applicants out of over 10,000 people. I know it's only a little part of Ian's life, but all of us at Clandestine Cake Club will miss his presence and baking at meetings. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
